Cake Smash Preparation

Birthday Photoshoot at Time2Shine Photography | Christchurch New Zealand

Is your baby turning one and you have no idea where to start?
Thinking about a beautiful birthday Photoshoot or a cake smash photoshoot and wondering what all the fuss is about?

Or maybe you’re thinking what is a cake smash photoshoot anyway?

Well my friend you’ve come to the right place, here at Time2Shine Photography it’s all about your Time2Shine and birthdays are even more exciting than a normal portrait session.

Our cake smash photoshoots are perfect to celebrate your baby’s first birthday, and booking on the actual day makes it even more special.

Imagine this; waking up together, having an easy going morning with love and laughter, present opening, nap time and then getting ready for your Baby’s first Birthday Photoshoot! You arrive at the studio with your best gears, all happy and loved up ready to rock a beautiful session. You walk in an the cake is there, the room is party ready with decorations to match and everything has been taken care of, you just had to show up and be ready to celebrate.

Once you’ve arrived, we don’t rush into taking photos, I normally get us all sitting down on the floor to relax for a few moments, allowing the birthday child to relax and take in the new environment. This is important as it sets the tone for our session, you’ll see them starting to look around in awe, wondering what’s going on.

Soon enough they’ll be into the decorations wanting to play and have a ball. This is when we get started, having fun playing with the balloons, creating some magic together and capturing those special moments too. We can do family portraits at this time along with formal birthday portraits of the birthday child. The choice is yours, but I always recommend getting a family portrait because you can choose not to include it in your final collection later.

Outfit changes I recommend doing when you come into the studio. Outfit changes are always welcomed during the session too if you have a couple you’d love for your child to wear. I also have outfits available in studio for those that wish to use ours.  Please feel free to ask when booking about these as I do add to my collection.

When bubs is had enough or I have far too many images.. it’s bath time!

Everyone loves a good bath and these are definitely so much fun, with two options of bath time; bubble bath or milk bath, with two options on bath style, our clawfoot white bath featured here or our silver classic bath tub.

Our bubbles are room bubbles and I do ask that you bring along your own bath bubbles – this ensures no reactions to soap suds and if you wish for fruit in your child’s milk bath, be sure to bring along some fruit. No need to prepare the fruit we can do that here too.

Of course the party has to end, I have a dry towel awaiting ready for your baby to get all dressed and cosy. You might get messy along with your baby, it’s a game of cat and mouse who gets messier you, me or the baby but it’s always so so much fun.

That my friends is how our beautiful cake smash photoshoots work! To be prepared for these is easy, it’s all about just being relaxed and come in with the feelings of happiness and joy and it’ll be a beautiful session together.

For ease of organising I always try to ask a few key questions to help set up for a beautiful session, I try not to overwhelm you with questions as I know what it’s like when you have too many options. Here at Time2Shine Photography I can do it all and create the set from my heart with a few keywords from you for inspiration or we can plan together and create the session together. I’m always happy to help in anyway possible to make it the most memorable day ever. However that looks for you and your child.

The easiest way is coming in and having a chat – no obligation whatsoever. I have most of my decorations available to see and feel and play with. Along with my Pinterest boards overflowing with inspiration for future sessions I’d love to create and offer. It’s honestly the most fun you could ever imagine. Its one of my favourite sessions of all time.

I have our cakes supplied by the lovely Vicky at Vic’s Kitchen, she’s a baker from Lyttleton bakery and lives around the corner, making is easy for me to collect the cakes the day of our sessions, if you would like extra’s for your session from Vicky please be sure to ask away and I’ll be able to organise this for you. Our basic cake is a 6″ rosette design coloured to your preference. This is included in our cake smash sessions – complimentary as I love making it super easy!

So with that I think I covered it all, but if I didn’t be sure to sing out, I can talk all day about my beautiful cake smash portraits, and creating this blog post has been a blast, filling my cup with so much love and passion, I cannot wait for our next beautiful birthday photos.
