Sing and Sign: A Musical Journey with Koby

Sing and Sign: A Musical Journey with Koby

Hey friends, Laura here!

My little guy is Two, and I wanted to share one of the best investments we've made as a family: Sing and Sign classes.

When Koby was a baby, I was searching for ways to stimulate his development, bond with him, and connect with other families. That's when we discovered the magic of Sing and Sign.

In this post, I'll share why we absolutely loved these classes and how they've benefited our family. Spoiler alert: we finished our classes last Christmas (2023), and we're still using many of the signs and songs today (September 2024)!

As parents who love music, we embarked on a musical journey with Sing and Sign with the incredible Vicki. We started taking Koby to classes when he was around six months old, and we were immediately captivated by the interactive and engaging atmosphere. It might have felt a bit daunting initially, especially with sleep deprivation and navigating a new environment, but the combination of catchy tunes, simple sign language gestures, and opportunities for social interaction made these classes a beautiful experience for both Koby and us. Vicki created such a welcoming atmosphere, even with Husband being the only male in many of the classes.

One of the most significant benefits we observed was Koby's early language development. The repetitive songs and signs helped him grasp new words and concepts at a much faster pace. Additionally, the classes stimulated his cognitive development by engaging his brain in various ways.

We also treasured the opportunity for Koby to interact with other children. The social aspect of the classes helped him develop crucial social skills, such as sharing, taking turns, and communicating effectively. Words like "please," "thank you,"

Perhaps most importantly, Sing and Sign provided a wonderful opportunity for us to bond with Koby. Sharing these musical experiences together created lasting memories and strengthened our family connection. Even though we've finished the classes, we frequently use our signs and songs at home, while out and about, and in our daily interactions. It's truly beautiful to see others around us appreciating the "please" and "thank you" signs too!

Still to this day, we love the "plane" sign. I tell my son often how much I love when he shows me there's a plane, and he gets all happy, which in turn makes me happy. It's a beautiful cycle and a wonderful way to shift the mood when things aren't going as planned.

Recommendations:

If you're looking for a fun and educational term activity for your little one, I highly recommend trying the Sing and Sign programme. Led by the incredible Becky, the Christchurch branch has always been a fantastic resource for families that I can’t recommend enough of. In fact, I had the pleasure of attending classes with both Becky and Vicki, and I'm so grateful for their dedication and the enriching experience they provided and couldn’t be more grateful!

Sing and Sign NZ offers both online and in-person classes.

Sing and Sign classes have been an invaluable experience for our family. We've loved watching Koby grow and learn through these interactive sessions. Not only did we bond as a family, but we also learned new songs together that we continue to share with Koby and others.

If you're looking for a way to bond with your baby and introduce them to the joy of music and language, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Sing and Sign classes a try.
What have you got to loose?

Much love and this blog was not created for any reasons other than sharing the love of what we got to experience, our sessions we paid for and I cannot rave enough about, I wish there was more of these classes and so grateful I got to be able to give our son the best headstart in life.

Supporting other businesses is what I love to do, even more so when I believe in their mission too, through the decade of working with others and being a consumer I love being able to provide my reviews and recommendations and support businesses by paying for their services.
